Two weeks away from the original date to convert to only digital TV, the House voted to delay the switch four months until June. The reason for the delay is that the money to help people buy these converter boxes has run out and there are 3.2 million requests for the $40 card to buy the box. There are other consumers are still confused about if they need the digital to analog TV converter box and how to set it up.
Bottom line, the TV stations are ready but consumers are not and in an effort to make a smoother switch they pushed the manadatory switch date back to June!

Why Do We Have To Convert Our TV From Digital To Analog?
Of course it will improve picture and sound quality but why are we being forced to use a digital to analog TV converter box? In 1996 congress passed legislation mandating the change from analog to digital TV broadcasts that is now aproching the cut off date of Feburary 17, 2009. Digital transmissions make more efficient use of the broadcast spectrum so there is more room on the digital spectrum. Once analog TV broadcasts end, those frequencies are returned to the federal government to be used for communications systems for police and fire departments and other public saftey uses.
